Mr. Betar's Social Studies classroom provides an enthusiastic environment striving to bring history to life for the students. In addition to historical facts and data, Mr. Betar encourages students to analyze history through their own individual perspectives and not only form an opinion, but strengthen their ability to articulate and present it to their peers. Aside from history, the courses provided allow students to familiarize themselves with current social and political issues with the aim of creating independent, self-motivated citizens. The Social Studies department features students in Grades 7-12, and disciplines such as World Geography, American Cultures, Civics, American Studies, World Studies, Teen & Law, and Sociology. It is our hope that through examination of the past and present, our students are better suited to prosper in the future.
Aside from teaching, Mr. Betar also contributes to the Altoona Lady Lions Basketball program as a Varsity Assistant and Junior Varsity Head Coach. The 2016-17 school year will be his 3rd year on the coaching staff. In two seasons, Mr. Betar has coached the JV teams to a combined record of 24-11, including a 17-1 record in 2015-16.
