Special Needs Alternative Program (SNAP)
- Description
- This program is designed to meet the
individual needs for special education students who cannot
appropriately function in a traditional school setting.
Students are between the ages of 12-21 and are classified as
needing either Emotional Support or Learning Support services.
The setting provides a very structured environment with firm
limits and rules, as well as small group instruction. The
program provides approximately three hours of school per day
Monday through Friday.School days are divided into 2 separate
sections. The morning section includes 10th, 11th and 12th
graders and runs from 7:30 to 11:15A.M. The second section
contains 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students and is conducted from
11:15 to 2:30P.M.
- Academic Component
- The academic curriculum follows the
Altoona Area School District planned course guidelines for
grade level and credit requirements. The specific subject areas
are Math, English,Social Studies, Science, Health, Life
Skills/Careers. Program modifications and specially designed
instruction may be needed, and are individualized for each
student. They may include materials being read orally,
utilization of the computer, calculator and math charts,
behavior management programs, and adjustment of instructional
material to specific learning styles.
